Season 1 At Lumon Industries, employees undergo “severance,” a procedure dividing their work and personal memories. Mark, a grieving team leader, begins to uncover the dark secrets of the company, forcing him and his coworkers to confront questions of identity, free will, and corporate control.
Season 2 In season two, Mark and his friends learn the dire consequences of trifling with the severance barrier, leading them further down a path of woe.
Review - End Season 1: If I were to sum up this show in a single word, it would be simply “WOW”. There are no discernible words for it. The show is truly remarkable, with exceptional and distinctive cinematography, and the narrative, akin to a chef’s kiss.
I love the concept of separating the personal from the work life, literally, through this Severance process. It’s amazing to see how the characters behave differently in those two different environments.
It is a very minimalistic show with very little, yet perfect, amount of characters working in this HUGE, mysterious office.
Really enjoyed the suspense left at the end of the 1st Season, and how it is evolving in the 2nd Season, and can’t wait to see where this leads to…
Edit [2025-03-01]: I’ve been watching this new season, and I must mention that it’s getting better and better. Yesterday, I watched Episode 7, and I was impressed by how emotional and strong the narrative is. One of my absolute favourites, without a doubt.
This second season is so emotional and powerful, I can’t wait to see what’s missing in the missing three episodes of the season.
Edit [2025-03-06] - End Season 2: Last week, I finished watching the second season of Severance, and since then I have been reflecting upon the resolution of the whole evolution of the narrative, and I must say that is clearly one of my favorite shows ever (I’m very picky).
This season, the entire story revolved around Mark and Gemma’s love story, and I found it well done in terms of emotions, music, and overall ambiance.
I must say that I found some less great moments, which made me say that the first show was a real bang. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a great evolution of the story: unique, creative, and intriguing, and that’s why I recommend anyone into this kind of narrative to watch it as it’s a good employ of the time.
