Website 2.0

10 Feb 2025|2 minute read

Yesterday, I switched over to the latest version of my website, which I’ve been working on for the past couple of days.

I was no longer updating my website, and I no longer enjoyed looking at its state. I found it difficult to read the contents, and that just made me want to make a better version of it.

This new theme was highly inspired by Kev Quirk’s website. Thanks to him and his 512kb.club, I was inspired to make my new website as minimal as possible! Even without the use of JavaScript (yes, it does not have JS).

As I was in the midst of making changes, I have also made the decision to transfer the hosting from Cloudflare to StaticHost.eu.

Simply a better alternative that respects its users by assuring better privacy and no tracking for those that visit the website. It’s also European (from Sweden), so it adheres to the General Data Protection Regulation and all the privacy-protecting laws in place.

Alongside this change, I also started moving from GitHub to Codeberg

Since a while ago, I have been using Forgejo on my home server, and I found it to be much more appealing than GitHub’s interface. Since Codeberg is based on Forgejo, it is simply an excellent alternative. Once again, hosted in Europe (Germany). It’s also way more transparent and open than GitHub, so it’s generally way better for hosting open-source projects.

Being from Europe, I want to support and use services that are proudly European. These services care more about privacy and user rights because they follow laws like the GDPR.

If you’re also interested in switching to (better) European alternatives, I highly recommend checking out this website, https://european-alternatives.eu/.
